Hand-forged in the Batangas tradition
The balisong was born in Batangas, Philippines. Every knife in this catalogue is made by Filipino artisans and metalworkers, many from families with generations of experience, now working in the United States. Blades are ground from 440C stainless, D2 tool steel, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, and fitted to handles of kamagong ebony, carabao horn, Philippine deer horn and bone.

Of all the animals on the shelf, only one makes tools. The BF-63 is the plainest build in the high carbon group and the least expensive way into it — no decoration, no clever inlay work, just the pattern done properly.

A carbon steel is heat-treatable when its carbon content falls between 0.30% and 1.70% by weight. What else is in there changes everything: trace sulfur leaves the steel red-short, brittle and crumbly at working temperature, while a low-alloy grade like A36 contains roughly 0.05% sulfur and melts at 1,426–1,538 °C (2,599–2,800 °F). Manganese improves hardenability — by some definitions that makes a low-alloy steel, though AISI allows up to 1.65% manganese and still calls it carbon steel. Hardness here is approximately 58 to 60 HRC.
Solid brass handles carry kamagong inserts at 24cm overall and 180g. Nothing about it is machine-perfect, which is the point. Handmade in Batangas — see more high carbon balisongs.
