What makes Balisong Prime different from the standard range?
Three things you can see and feel: rarer handle materials (fossilised mammoth tooth, mother of pearl, engraved wenge), hand-cut engraved bolsters rather than plain caps, and a hand-stitched leather sheath with every knife. The forging and construction standard is the same house standard — Prime is about materials and finish.
Is mammoth tooth handle material real?
Yes — genuine fossilised tooth from woolly mammoths, tens of thousands of years old, stabilised with resin so it can be cut and polished into handle panels. Because it is a finite fossil material, no two panels are alike and supply is genuinely limited. It is also fully legal to own and trade, unlike elephant ivory.
Why do prices in this collection reach $999?
Material rarity plus hand time. A mammoth tooth or mother of pearl handle costs many times what wood does before a single hour of fitting, and engraved bolsters are cut by hand rather than stamped. At the top of the range you are paying for materials that cannot be reordered when they run out.
Are Prime knives display pieces or can they be flipped?
Both, with judgement. They are fully functional balisongs with the same construction as the working range. That said, mother of pearl and fossil materials are less forgiving of drops than micarta or wood — most owners flip their rosewood and stag pieces and keep the rarest handles for the shelf.
