Hand-forged in the Batangas tradition
The balisong was born in Batangas, Philippines. Every knife in this catalogue is made by Filipino artisans and metalworkers, many from families with generations of experience, now working in the United States. Blades are ground from 440C stainless, D2 tool steel, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, and fitted to handles of kamagong ebony, carabao horn, Philippine deer horn and bone.

The Philippine leopard cat is a small, spotted hunter that gets by on quietness rather than size. The dappled figure in the kamagong panels reads much the same way, and no two sets come out alike.

The heat-treatable carbon steels run 0.30–1.70% carbon by weight, and small amounts of other elements change the outcome sharply. Sulfur is the one to watch: it makes steel red-short, meaning brittle and crumbly at working temperatures. Low-alloy carbon steel such as A36 grade contains about 0.05% sulfur and melts around 1,426–1,538 °C (2,599–2,800 °F). Manganese is often added to improve hardenability — AISI’s definition of carbon steel allows up to 1.65% manganese by weight. Here the blade is high carbon steel at approximately 58 to 60 HRC.
