Hand-forged in the Batangas tradition

The balisong was born in Batangas, Philippines. Every knife in this catalogue is made by Filipino artisans and metalworkers, many from families with generations of experience, now working in the United States. Blades are ground from 440C stainless, D2 tool steel, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, and fitted to handles of kamagong ebony, carabao horn, Philippine deer horn and bone.

What is not driving those prices

Steel. Every knife on that list except the two Damascus blades is D2 at 58-60 HRC out of the same stock. Nothing on this ladder cuts better than anything else on it.

Assembly. Same pivots, same tang pins, same tolerances, same person checking each one before it boxes.

What is driving them

  • Handle hours. A contour that takes longer to shape costs more. This is the largest single factor and it is invisible on a spec sheet.
  • Insert material and waste. Stag horn and burl have high reject rates. Rose wood does not. The blanks that never make it into a knife are paid for by the ones that do.
  • Run size. Setup costs the same for six knives as for twenty-six, so a short run costs more each. This explains more of the spread than anything else and nobody in the trade ever admits it.
  • Blade profile. A tanto or a dagger takes more grinding time than a plain blade, and a symmetrical grind takes the most of all because both sides have to agree.

So how should you actually choose

By blade shape and handle material, then by price, in that order. Not the other way round.

If you want a knife to use, the plain and hunting profiles are the practical ones. If you want a knife to look at, the burl and stag horn handles are the ones nobody else will have an exact copy of. If you want the cheapest way into this series, the BF-129.00 is a Damascus blade for less than any of the plain D2 knives, which is a genuine anomaly and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Where this knife sits: plain blade, rose wood, 200g, in the middle of the top third. It is the one to buy if you want the classic silhouette without the burl or the horn and you prefer the lighter 200g frame.

Rose wood handle and the rest of the specification

  • Blade: D2 tool steel, 58-60 HRC
  • Handle: brass with rose wood
  • Overall length: 24cm open
  • Blade length: 12cm
  • Weight: 200g
  • Sharpened or as an unsharpened trainer at the same price

Ordering this D2 rose wood balisong

Trainer option above Add to Cart, same price, because grinding an edge is one step in a long build. A leather sheath cut to this frame comes with it. Free US delivery, and $49 flat to the rest of the world per order.

Shipping & Delivery

Every knife is checked for lockup, pivot action and edge before it goes in the box. Nothing ships that we would not keep for ourselves.

Processing

Most orders leave the bench in 1 to 3 business days. If the knife you picked is not in stock we forge it for you, which takes roughly 2 to 3 weeks. Engraving adds a little time on top of that.

What shipping costs

  • United States: free on every order.
  • Everywhere else: a flat 49 dollars for the whole order, however many knives are in it, so two at once ship for the same as one.

How long it takes

  • USA: 4 to 8 business days
  • International: 8 to 14 business days, longer if customs takes an interest

Those are carrier estimates, not promises we can enforce.

Tracking

A tracking number reaches you by email as soon as the parcel is collected. Carriers often take 24 to 48 hours to start showing movement, so a quiet first day is normal.

Customs and local law

Import duty, VAT and customs fees are set by your own country and are yours to pay. Balisong law varies by country and by US state, so it is worth checking yours before you order.
