Hand-forged in the Batangas tradition
The balisong was born in Batangas, Philippines. Every knife in this catalogue is made by Filipino artisans and metalworkers, many from families with generations of experience, now working in the United States. Blades are ground from 440C stainless, D2 tool steel, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, and fitted to handles of kamagong ebony, carabao horn, Philippine deer horn and bone.

The BF-41 Elephant is a 24cm VG10 balisong built on the classic pattern: solid brass handles, kamagong wood inserts, 12cm blade. Nothing exotic in the spec — it is the fit and the finish that separate a handmade Batangas knife from a factory copy.
Elephants are the yardstick everyone reaches for on weight, and at 180g the Elephant is the heaviest of the 24cm kamagong knives in the VG10 line — enough mass to feel planted without becoming a chore.

VG10 mixes roughly 1% carbon, 1% molybdenum, 15% chromium, .2% vanadium and 1.5% cobalt. Small amounts, but they give the steel its ability to hold an edge and its sheer durability, along with wear resistance, corrosion resistance, hardness and toughness. It is high-end steel, very popular in Japan and rated highly by Japanese fishermen, and it copes well in a humid environment.
