The BF-133 is named for its blade, which is cut to an eagle profile. It is the most decorative shape in the rosewood and brass line, and decoration on a balisong has consequences that a straight blade does not.
What a shaped blade does to the flip
A balisong is a lever with a weight on the end. Change where that weight sits and you change how the knife rotates. A profiled blade removes steel from some places and leaves it in others, which shifts the balance point, usually slightly forward of where a plain blade would put it.
In practice that means:
- The knife wants to complete a rotation a fraction faster.
- Slow, controlled moves need marginally more input from you.
- Anything you have already learned on a plain blade transfers within an evening.
It is a real difference and a small one. Anybody telling you a shaped blade ruins a balisong has not flipped one. Anybody telling you it makes no difference at all has not flipped one either.
Cutting a profile by hand
This is where the hours go. A straight grind is a straight grind. A profiled blade is filed and checked, filed and checked, and both sides have to end up the same or the knife looks wrong from one side. There is no way to rush it and no machine on our bench that does it for us.
That is most of the reason this knife costs what it costs. You are not paying for exotic steel. You are paying for somebody’s afternoon.
D2 steel, and what 58-60 HRC means for you
D2 tool steel, hardened to 58-60 HRC. Hard enough that the edge lasts through real use, soft enough that a normal sharpening stone bites and you are not forced into diamond plates. High chromium, so it resists rust, but it is not stainless and it will spot if you neglect it.
Rosewood and brass on this D2 balisong
Rosewood darkens with handling and brass dulls to a soft gold. Neither of those is damage.
A note on the spec sheet
Our own listing has carried a copied line describing this blade as a tanto. It is not. It is the eagle profile, as the title says and as the photographs show. We are flagging that here rather than quietly hoping nobody noticed.
Who this one is for
Somebody who wants the knife to be looked at as well as used. If you only care about function, the plain blade in this line does the same job for less money and we would rather you bought that one.

Processing
Most orders leave the bench in 1 to 3 business days. If the knife you picked is not in stock we forge it for you, which takes roughly 2 to 3 weeks. Engraving adds a little time on top of that.

- Everywhere else: a flat 49 dollars for the whole order, however many knives are in it, so two at once ship for the same as one.

Tracking

Hand-forged in the Batangas tradition
The balisong was born in Batangas, Philippines. Every knife in this catalogue is made by Filipino artisans and metalworkers, many from families with generations of experience, now working in the United States. Blades are ground from 440C stainless, D2 tool steel, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, and fitted to handles of kamagong ebony, carabao horn, Philippine deer horn and bone.
Checked four times
Detailed hand inspection, smoothness and pivot testing, blade alignment checks, and durability and finish quality control. If a knife doesn't meet our standards, it never reaches our customers.
