Hand-forged in the Batangas tradition
The balisong was born in Batangas, Philippines. Every knife in this catalogue is made by Filipino artisans and metalworkers, many from families with generations of experience, now working in the United States. Blades are ground from 440C stainless, D2 tool steel, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, and fitted to handles of kamagong ebony, carabao horn, Philippine deer horn and bone.

Light bones, fast lift. That is where the Bird gets its name, and it is a fair description of how this one behaves: a slim frame and pale bone inserts that make the BF-16 one of the easiest knives in the range to learn a first rollover on.

Behind the simple look sits 440c, the highest-carbon steel in the 400 stainless series: 0.95–1.20% carbon, 16.00–18.00% chromium, 0.75% molybdenum, 1.0% manganese, 1.0% silicon. Oil quenching takes it to maximum hardness and the usual heat treatment lands it at 58–60 HRC. It began life as a bearing steel, which is exactly why it takes and keeps a working knife edge.
