Hand-forged in the Batangas tradition
The balisong was born in Batangas, Philippines. Every knife in this catalogue is made by Filipino artisans and metalworkers, many from families with generations of experience, now working in the United States. Blades are ground from 440C stainless, D2 tool steel, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, and fitted to handles of kamagong ebony, carabao horn, Philippine deer horn and bone.

The BF-30 Crane is a full-size 29cm balisong on a 14cm VG10 blade, with a brass frame carrying carabao horn inserts: a Philippine material with its own grain and colour in every panel.
A crane is all reach: long lines, deliberate movement, nothing hurried. This is the long-format knife in the VG10 line, and the extra length shows up as a slower, wider arc through a flip.

About the steel: roughly 1% carbon, 1% molybdenum, 15% chromium,.2% vanadium and 1.5% cobalt go into VG10. That balanced chemical composition is what delivers the edge retention, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, hardness and toughness the steel is known for. Very popular in Japan: a favourite of Japanese fishermen. It is especially good if you are working in a humid environment.
