Worth saying plainly, because it is the question we get most: the work does not get less hand-made as the price drops. A $109.45 high carbon balisong is forged, ground, fitted and tuned by the same smiths as a $500 Damascus one, and it will cut just as well.
What the money buys is material and hours. Damascus needs folding, drawing and etching before it is even a blade. Stag horn and figured hardwood cost several times what plain horn does and waste more in the fitting. The finishing pass runs longer. That is the whole difference, and anyone telling you the cheap end is machine-made is guessing.
