Hand-forged in the Batangas tradition

The balisong was born in Batangas, Philippines. Every knife in this catalogue is made by Filipino artisans and metalworkers, many from families with generations of experience, now working in the United States. Blades are ground from 440C stainless, D2 tool steel, VG10, high carbon and Damascus, and fitted to handles of kamagong ebony, carabao horn, Philippine deer horn and bone.

Description

The BF-91 Otter is the jigged bone build in the D2 line — brass handles with textured bone inserts instead of the usual kamagong, on a 24cm frame with a 12cm blade. D2 is semi-stainless: it wears slowly and holds an edge through hard use, but it is happier oiled than damp.

Otters spend their day turning over in the water for no obvious reason, which is roughly what flipping a balisong looks like from the outside. The jigged bone helps — it keeps a grip when hands are less than dry.

D2 tool steel at 58-60 HRC gives this one its character: a razor sharp edge for precision cutting, strong toughness, and excellent edge retention. A lightweight, compact knife that is ready for anything — small, but powerful.

Every knife is finished by hand, so grain, figure and polish vary slightly from piece to piece — no two are identical. Browse the full authentic Filipino balisong collection, or add custom engraving to make this one yours.
